I believe that the film industry is beginning to go through a similar transmogrification, as did the music industry back in the early 80’s.
In the past two weeks I’ve invested in no fewer than 4 pay-per-view movies;
- I Am Love with Tilda Swinton
- White Material with Isabelle Huppert
- Extraordinary Measures with Brendan Frasier and Harrison Ford
- The American with George Clooney.
I challenge any of my readers, I think there are at least two of you (thanks Mom), to tell me what was good about any of these abominations.
With Video-on-Demand becoming a reality, methinks film aficionados like myself will begin ignoring the weekend B.O. hype and multi-million marketing campaigns.
Theater owners are already feeling this threat and trying to figure out how to handle it.
Downloading/Streaming story-driven films will become the norm.
Just like Indie Music caught the big record companies with their pants down, so will the ‘New Wave’ of Indie Film.
