The Battle of Aspromonte

The events in Syria and the shifting alliances of all the leaders and players in that situation reminded me that 151 years ago this past week, the Battle of Aspromonte took place. The Italian Army turned on and attacked the Red Sirts, along with their leader Giuseppe Garibaldi, the father of Italian unification. They wounded him, imprisoned him and later exiled him to Caprera.

So much for gratitude and allegiance.
